My name is DAN GOERLITZ, and I’m the founder of TruQuality Homes. Before this company ever existed, before I ever picked up a clipboard or even held my contractor’s license; I was wearing combat boots. I have spent eight years in the U.S. Navy as a Combat Engineer known as the Seabees, serving alongside the Marines across several tours in the Middle East. Even though I was in the Navy - I have no idea how a ship even floats. My job was to build. I worked on multi-million-dollar military construction projects, helping to create and maintain operational bases in environments where failure simply wasn’t an option.

It wasn’t glamorous—but it taught me discipline, precision, and the importance of doing things right the first time.
When I came home, I knew I wanted to use those skills to make a difference here—in my own hometown of Newark, Delaware. So I started my first company, ProSource Remodeling; with my brother by my side and a toolbelt on my hip. We built some great projects and even better relationships. But when my brother decided to answer his own call and enlisted, I was left running the business and working full-time in the field. I gave it everything I had, but eventually I decided to close that business.​

Honestly, I thought that was the end of the road for me as a business owner.
​I spent the next few years working for other remodeling companies—residential, commercial, big firms, small crews—you name it. I worked my way from apprentice to superintendent. I saw the best and the worst of the industry. And time after time, I found myself thinking: We can do better than this. One day, after a long and frustrating day, I called my girlfriend -now wife. I told her how I was feeling—burned out and unsure of my future at this current company.​
She said something I’ll never forget: “I know you. I trust you. Let’s try it one more time, baby.”​​
